Journalists and the Truth Under Attack
Monday, December 19th, 2005Journalists are increasingly coming under attack by the government to divulge their sources. It is possible, as recent events have shown, for a journalist to be sent to jail for not divulging a confidential source. One of the vital mechanisms in this great nation is our system of checks and balances. If we allow the government to railroad over the press, what kind of news can we expect? Looking through history, we can see that the press has been the juggernaut in outing wrongful actions in our government and society. If journalists are not permitted to protect their sources, they will not be able to dig as deep and uncover the wrongful actions of those around us.
